WHAT WE DO AND HOW WE DO IT

OUR PROGRAMS

A DUAL APPROACH

Our core programs exemplify our holistic approach to social sustainability: Project Moio provides a 3-month vocational training, empowering young women with a path to independence; Zunde raMambo connects generations, preserving skills and cultural heritage. Together, these approaches form the heart of Moio's commitment to nurturing a supportive sisterhood among Zimbabwean women.

INTERGENERATIONAL BEADING PROGRAM

ZUNDE RAMAMBO

INTERGENERATIONAL BEADING PROGRAM

ZUNDE RAMAMBO

Moio's newest initiative seeks to revive, protect and promote the practice of Zunde raMambo, a traditional Shona practice of sharing and exchanging knowledge and resources between generations of a community. This practice, which was once a cornerstone of Shona culture, has been largely forgotten in recent years due to the recent erosion of community structures. Reviving Zunde raMambo has the potential to mobilize the next generation of women, helping them to gain access to the skills, knowledge, and resources to become the strong, empowered leaders of tomorrow. In creating a women-centered Zunde raMambo practice, where community matriarchs empower youth through their ancient craft, we are creating a framework for the preservation of culture.

OUR NEWEST SEGMENT

QUILTING INITIATIVE

Our newest Zunde raMambo initiative provides women of different ages with a unique platform to weave their life stories into intricate quilts, creating a tapestry of individual narratives that blend into a powerful collective narrative. Organized into five groups, these women have the chance to express their experiences, hopes, and dreams through art, forging connections across generations. The resulting quilt will become a tapestry of shared wisdom, resilience, and culture. Our aim is to auction this extraordinary piece, channeling the proceeds back into the community to support endeavors that uplift and empower all.
